Matthew Marino, PT, MSPT
Matthew Marino started out in the fitness industry as a personal trainer in 2001 before graduating from Northeastern University with a Bachelor’s in Rehabilitation Science in 2005 and a Master’s of Physical Therapy in 2006. Matt has completed decades of post graduate training since starting his career and he holds numerous advanced certifications. As a practitioner Matt has treated patients in orthopedic, industrial, neurological, and long-term acute care settings, and he has experience coaching athletes up to the professional level. He is passionate about helping people heal, improve overall health, wellness and fitness, and perform at their highest possible level.
As a Physical Therapist, applied sport scientist, performance coach, and professional ergonomist Matt splits his time inside and outside the clinic and gym, combining skills and expertise to deliver a unique spectrum of services.
In the clinic and gym, Matt uses science backed methods and cutting-edge technology to analyze physical and physiological capabilities and limitations. He helps patients and clients set their baseline, identify unique areas for improvement, determine their athletic profile, track changes over time, and perform targeted treatment or training to meet and exceed the demands of sports, work and life and achieve key goals. By targeting the highest priority limitations and attacking their root causes, patients and clients recover and return to sports or work quickly, prevent future injuries, and optimize health and performance. Matt’s services include Physical Therapy, breathing assessment including capnography, spirometry, and breathwork coaching, metabolic analysis including resting metabolic rate tests and various types of graded exercise tests, force plate testing, evaluating movement, strength, power, agility, speed, fitness and performance, training program design, and coaching in person and remotely.
Outside the clinic and gym Matt provides medical device, exoskeleton, exosuit, wearable and assistive technology consulting services to people and companies in need of assistance with design, testing and implementation. He is an internationally recognized expert in these areas, having contributed to the creation and improvement of several products on the market today, the development of exoskeleton standards with the ASTM International F48 Committee on Exoskeletons and Exosuits, and as a founding partner of the ASTM International Exo Technology Center of Excellence. Matt is also an owner of Evolving Innovation, a Portland based consulting firm focused on workplace safety, ergonomics, injury prevention, return to work, health, wellness, and performance optimization.
For fun Matt enjoys outdoor activities such as climbing, hiking, running, mountain biking, stand up paddleboarding, skateboarding, snowboarding, playing sports and spending time with his family and friends.
